DESCRIPTION
The "Great Recession" appears to be reaching a bottom and turning the corner to recovery. MAPI forecasts that sluggish growth will return in the second half of 2009 and accelerate modestly in 2010. The quarterly update to the Industrial Outlook provides forecasts for the change in production activity in 24 industries for 2009 and 2010, and our first look at 2011. Our modeling projects that 21 of the 24 industries analyzed in the report will decline in 2009, while 14 of 24 will grow in 2010, and all 24 will be growing in 2011. Due to the severity of the 2008-2009 downturn and the expected sluggish recovery, however, it will take several years before most manufacturing industries return to their previous cyclical peak, possibly not until 2013.
